Who am I?

Hi, I'm Katie O'Connor. Although I was born in Boston, I moved to North Palm Beach, Florida when I was just three years old, and it is what I call "home". My days in Florida are filled with lying in the sun on the beach, which I live less than a mile from. I am going to be the chief marketing officer of a large company. I plan to achieve this goal by starting to connect myself to the marketing world now through info sessions and company visits. I am like my mom in the sense that we are both caring, driven, and love to shop. Differently, I am like my dad in the sense that he was extremely generous and had a great sense of humor, while I, too, love to give back to the community and am considered the "clown" of my friend group. However, I am unlike my parents because my mom is more organized than I am and my dad was very assertive and courageous, which I struggle with sometimes. If I were being honest, I would admit that my expectations for myself have been predominantly driven by my parents. However, since moving over 2000 miles away, I have become much more independent, and have learned to develop my own expectations for myself, without my parents' influence. I look up to my roommate Michel because she is the most caring and selfless person I have ever met. In addition to being the person I can always lean on, she has encouraged me to go outside of my comfort zone and live life to the fullest. If I were a wild animal I would be a wolf because I like to surround myself with people I'm comfortable with, but I also enjoy spending time alone and taking a break. When I was eight years old I was walking in the woods with my friends in Cape Cod when I fell directly onto a bunch of poison ivy. As a result, my arms, legs, and face were covered in red dots, which itched for days. My sun sign is Cancer. My moon sign is Leo. My rising sign is Cancer.

  3. Hey that's really cool that you feel closely connected to a wolf! I also believe that is my spirit animal. I also thought it was great how you were able to become more independent and go based of your own expectations rather than your parents in college.

  4. Hey Katie,

So sorry to hear about your experience with poison ivy! I've never personally had it but my friends have told me how awful it is. Just remember that most nature is loving, caring, and healing for us as humans.

  5. Hi Katie,

What a bad experience you had with poison ivy! Luckily I have not experienced a poison ivy encounter yet. I just moved to CA from St. Louis and while living in St. Louis I always was scared I would touch poison ivy since I had never seen one.

I also found that after moving thousands of miles from home, it's made me more independent. Love the blog name!

  8. I know how it feels to have proper expectations around you be more compelling than what you think you are for but college is a place to find yourself so don’t worry if it takes time. It took time for me too.
